What to Visit in Dalat ?

I have ordered the attractions, by my personal taste, the most attractive first.

Town Center + Lam Vien Square

As explained in the Orientation section on the first page, first visit the nice streets above the market and the Lam Vien square, at the edge of the lake. It is probably a walking distance from your hotel.

Cable car ride + Pagoda “Thien Vien Truc Lam” + Lake

This is a really beautiful day trip. First you take a cable car that glides above a forest of pines. The ride takes 15 minutes and it is very quiet and relaxing (unless, you put music from your smartphone, like I did 🙂 ).

There are many cabins, each one for a maximum of 4 people. Then you arrive to beautiful gardens with some beautiful gates

and holy pagodas :

If you have time, you can find the right gate and get down to the lake (10 minutes walk)

and rent a boat in form of a duck, or you can sit in one of the cafés.

Because it is a holy site, you are supposed to be dressed in a covered way, otherwise they will give you funny clothes to wear on you.

 How to get there ?

The cable car station is about 2 Km (line distance) from the market (direction South).
The cable car will take you about 2 Km more, till the holy site and the lake. See it on the interactive Map above. Use one of the Transports mentioned on the first page. I returned from the cable car station to town, by foot.

Datanla Waterfalls with Toboggans

Another fun day (half day). You pay an entrance fee to the site (not expensive at all) and then you have the option to walk down to a waterfall or pay for a very fun toboggan (carts on wheels).

On the first waterfalls you take many pictures and then you have the option to continue down by foot to another waterfall.

and to another toboggan.

The second  toboggan has even a longer path than the first one. If you take it “one way”, you return to the park entrance.

Notes :

  1. If you are wondering : These toboggans are also pulled up in some sections. That’s why you return to the same altitude.
  2. While you are on the second toboggan, smile, because you will be taken in photo automatically at some point (the return way) and you want to look cool.
  3. If you plan to take the second toboggan “one way” then you can take also the first toboggan “one way”.

How to get there ?

It is is about 5 Km (line distance) from the market (direction South).
See it on the interactive Map above. Use one of the Transports mentioned on the first page.

Linh Phuoc Pagoda

This is a “must see” site, but not as fun as the Datanla falls, for instance.

The Pagodas are in a narrow street and there are lots of tourists.

The holy monuments are decorated with a lot of nice figures and it reminds the Gaudi gardens (and houses) in Barcelona.

It is a short visit, you will probably not stay more than 1 hour on the spot.

How to get there ?

It is is about 7 Km (line distance) from the market (direction East).
See it on the interactive Map above. Use one of the Transports mentioned on the first page.

Note : If you are lucky, in order to return to the town center, you may catch an antique train that is an attraction by itself.

The train will bring you to the old train station (an attraction by itself), which is very close to the lake and to the center. The problem is that this train runs very few times a day, and only if there are enough tourists at the moment.

Crazy House

Very nice attraction, close to the center. It reminds the houses of Gaudi in Barcelona. It is designed by the vietnamese architect Đặng Việt Nga .

The site is open for visits (a lot, including groups) but it is also an active hotel.

There are about 10 rooms, each one designed with a theme of another animal. I have no idea where are the guests during the day, probably they are waking up early.

I would like to take the bear room :

It has a private bathroom, of course :

Or the tiger room :

You can read more about the crazy house on Wikipedia.
There is also a nice view from the crazy house :

Valley of love

dalat

A garden with a lot of flowers and a lake.
It is a nice place to spend a few hours during a week-end. The pedalo boats in the lake are included with the entrance ticket. The following picture was taken from a duck :

dalat

The theme of the park is LOVE, so there are hearts everywhere. They don’t let single persons enter the park. Just kidding.
There are hearts in the gardens :

dalat

Hearts ,on the floor :
